For currency exchange up to ₹50,000, you need a valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, or Passport). For amounts above ₹50,000, a PAN Card is mandatory as per RBI guidelines. For outward remittances or forex cards, you will also need your Passport, visa, and confirmed flight ticket.

As per RBI rules under FEMA, Indian travellers can carry up to USD 3,000 (or equivalent) in cash per trip. You can carry additional funds on a prepaid forex card, which is safer and accepted worldwide. Indian currency notes up to Rs 25,000 can be carried when travelling abroad.
